Developmental & Substantive Editing
Developmental or substantive editing is “big picture” editing. I focus on the structure and content of the manuscript.
Publishers hire me to edit a project from first draft to final manuscript. This includes reorganizing for content and structure, and negotiating changes, cuts, or additions to the manuscript with the author. It may also include incorporating feedback from expert reviewers. I create art and photo manuscripts, and lists of required text permissions. I also approve art, select photos, and check and approve layout.
Copyediting
Copyediting is “fine tuning the details” editing. I focus on grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistency. It may include Canadianizing and metrication.
Writing
I research and write educational resources from an outline prepared by my client, or from one I develop myself.
